All of this in the context of an existing building that was originally built and designed for a single type of use. Dealing with existing structures requires an intensive examination of the building and its surroundings. Whether façade, installations or staircase - everything has to be rethought and restructured for the transfer to alternative forms of use.

The former Wormser Kaufhof looks back on a 100-year history. Founded in 1928 by Alfred Leonhard Tietz, the department store left its mark on Worms city center. During the Second World War, the Kaufhof was almost completely destroyed. Eight years later, the department store celebrated its comeback in the steel skeleton construction in which it was known until the end. The increase in online retail and the coronavirus pandemic hit the Kaufhof Group hard. The declining business figures soon led to closures, including in Worms, where Kaufhof announced the closure of Galeria Kaufhof on July 27, 2020.
